OMG, 7 years!

Hi All,

I am back. So much has gone on in these last 7 years…where do I begin!

  1. I am DIVORCED! I finally got up enough courage to say “BOY BYE!” You can read that on my other blog “Nurses speak out loud” and the blog post “Catching Flights”.
  2. I became a published author. If you know of some one who is going through a divorce or just starting over, recommend my book of devotionals.
  3. I am still a NURSE! Covid came and I am burnt out and returning to writing is what calmed and soothed my soul.
  4. I am a Nana x 2 to amazing and wonderful girls.
  5. I am healing! I am on a journey of self love, self awareness, self accountability, SELF EVERYTHING!
  6. I am older, lol!
  7. I went to therapy.
  8. I tried dating….to be continued.
  9. I am just focusing on myself and my new normal.

The Tennis Sisters:Dominating and Dynamic

Those grunts can be heard around the world! When they are on the tennis courts, they are a force to be reckoned with, together and separate. The Williams’ sisters have dominated the world of tennis since they were teenagers, nearly 20 years. They have definitely placed their stamp on it.

Who are the little black girls with beads and braids?  I remember watching them on television and thinking, black girls in tennis? They have their hair in braids, they are the same color as I am.

Venus Ebony Starr Williams has been ranked No. 1 on three occasions. She became the first black American woman to be ranked No. 1 in February 2002. She has gone on to win several major titles individually and while playing in mixed doubles and doubles with her sister Serena. Venus has not been as dominate as her sister, but, she has proven that she is a force to be reckoned with. They have faced each other on numerous occasions and has created one of the best rivalries in tennis. Venus has missed several tournaments because for health reasons but she has come back to defeat some ranked opponents. Venus has also been a spokesperson for the equality of women salaries in professional tennis.venuswilliamsreddress2005.jpg

Serena Jameka Williams is the younger sister of Venus. She is the greatest female tennis player of all times. Serena’s accolades and achievements go on and on. She is 3rd on the all time Grand Slam list with 21 and is chasing Steffi Graf. Last year, she faced a heartbreaking defeat as she was chasing history in the U. S. Open. Serena is the second highest paid female athlete in 2015. She was named Sportsperson of the Year for 2015 by Sports Illustrated.

The LOVE Month and GOALS!

The MONTH of LOVE is upon us. I have set a few ambitious goals for myself and “A Perfectly Flawed Ruby” and one of those goals are: To post everyday this month about “LOVE!” It may be a poem, an article, or pictures, just something about “LOVE”.

Also since it is Black History Month, I will also be posting daily about notable, infamous, and some unsung heroes. This week will be dedicated to our SPORTS HEROES! Today, I chose Doug Williams, the first black starting quarterback to lead their team to a Superbowl win. Check it out

By this time next week, hopefully Cam Newton will be the third starting black quarterback to lead his team, the Carolina Panthers to the Superbowl and win and the first black quarterback to win a National Championship at the collegiate level and professional level, let’s not forget he won the Heisman, too!

The second week will be devoted to technological advances by black Americans. My third week will devoted to actors, creative people, musicians, and others in this type of category. The fourth week will center around those who have made tremendous strides in political activism and they will carry the month out.

February is Heart Health month! I will post once a week about heart healthy ideas, recipes, and exercises that you can do to keep your HEART HEALTHY!

Happy Reading and Enjoy! 🙂

I love my ambition!

Our History!

February is Black History Month.  Black History is “Our” History.  I say “Our” because as Americans, we must learn the contributions of others.  Blacks have played a major role in the building of our nation, contributions to society, technology advances, bringing together the racial divide, and so much more.  During this month, I will shine light on some notable and not so notable Black Americans.

Since the Superbowl is next Sunday, the first History Maker that I chose is Douglas “Doug” Lee Williams.  Doug Williams was the first starting black quarterback to win the Superbowl XXII with the Washington Redskins in 1988 and was also named the Superbowl MVP.

He was drafted in the first round in 1978 by Tampa Bay Buccaneers and led them to the first NFC Championship Game.  He was the lowest paid starting quarterback in the NFL. and the lowest behind 12 backups. After a couple of years in Tampa Bay, he left and went to the USFL. Once the USFL fizzled out, he was recruited by Joe Gibbs, who was the head coach of the Washington Redskins.  He landed the starting job from Jay Schroeder and eventually led the Redskins to the Superbowl where they beat the Denver Broncos.

After his football career, he became the head coach of his Alma Mater, Grambling State University. He is still involved in football as an executive with the Washington Redskins.

Quote Me!

Quote Me
Today’s Daily Post Challenge is “Quote Me”. What is the quote that you return to, why does it resonates with you?

“Success is how high you bounce when you hit rock bottom.”-George S. Patton

So many people have different definitions of what they believe is “SUCCESSFUL”.  I view my success as going after and achieving the goal. I am not looking at having wealth or fame. If I have achieved the goal, then I am successful.  I have hit rock bottom and have been humbled while at the bottom, and I said to myself, I must pick myself up and keep going, not that is my success.

How do you define success? Is it about wealth, fame and/or achieving goals?

Your Inspirational Quote for the day!

I guess it comes down to a simple choice, really. Get busy living or get busy dying.–Andy Dufresne- (Shawshank Redemption)

Onesided LOVE!

How many times have you been in one of those relationships? You seem to be the one who gives into everything, gives up everything, yet you do not get anything in return. You are the one who makes concessions for the relationship.

You cannot go out with your friends but your partner is out with their friends. You tell them everywhere you are going but they don’t. You have a certain time to be in the house, but your partner doesn’t. You can’t have friends of the opposite sex, but your partner does!

Well instead of this being a one sided love, you are in a CONTROLLING RELATIONSHIP! Didn’t you see the warning signs! Hello!!!! Oh you thought it was cute at first, you’re in this new relationship and they  just want to spend time with you!

NO, THEY WANT TO CONTROL YOU! You are in an emotionally abusive relationship; an unhealthy, unhappy, and volatile relationship!

Compromise is needed in every relationship. There should be give and take. A person does not have to lose themselves in the relationship. Each of you are individuals who have come together to make the team work. Each one of you are an asset to the team!

If you are in any kind of abusive relationship, LEAVE! I know that is easier said than done, because for so many, you have no one to turn to. You may not be financially stable to just pack up and leave. Seek HELP before it gets WORSE!
