If you have been in seclusion, hiding in a forest, or just couldn’t care less about world events, then you are not aware of the stance that Colin Kaepernick has taken.
Colin has chosen to use his platform (NFL Quarterback) as a VOICE, a FOGHORN, to let AMERICA know that even though you may sweep it under the rug, WE ARE NOT EQUAL! He isn’t being recognized for his play on the field but what he is doing on the sidelines. Courageous Colin is his name.
Colin Kaepernick is our Ali, Jim Brown, Tommie Smith, and John Carlos.
“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”
He decided that he could no longer sit around and watch what is happening and not take a stand; and “NOT STANDING” is what he is doing. Colin has once again opened the door for us to discuss race relations in America and the many social injustices as well.
Social injustices such as the underfunded public education system, cop killings, racial profiling, and discrimination of all kinds.
I love AMERICA, but tell me what other race has been more bigoted against than Blacks. We were born here and have less rights than immigrants coming to look for the “American Dream”.
For years, I have stood for the anthem, but I don’t put my hand over my heart. I stand for the Pledge of Allegiance but I do not say it or put my hand over my heart. That is my choice.
My father was an Army veteran and served this country for many years and I know the atrocities that he went through being a black man fighting for a country who felt as though he was a second class citizen. He couldn’t vote, had to drop out of school to help his family by working in the fields, but at 18 he wasn’t given a choice.
The national anthem has so many different meanings to many. For this Colin has been called so many things but all he is doing is “kneeling” for his cause. He has the “right”, RIGHT?
So many come to this country for the “American Dream” but as blacks, for many of us it is the “American Nightmare”.
If we are so outraged by a man “kneeling” for a song, why aren’t we as outraged at these cops for murdering people.
ANY MAN’S LIFE IS WORTH FIGHTING FOR!
