The Lynch Mob

We are living in a world where the LYNCH MOB has returned. They have returned with a vengeance. They no longer wear hoods over their heads, they are wearing blue, black, and brown. They have guns instead of rope. They are getting paid, they are riding in cars that state “to protect and serve” but who are you protecting and serving.

I am tired. I have a headache, my heart is hurting for my black men, my black race. I get chills just for thinking about the state of my race. The state of my handsome black men, for my husband, for my brother, for my son, for my nephews, and for everyone that looks like them. They are being targeted, they are not given their rights, they are being LYNCHED.

Police are the “NEW LYNCH MOB”. For quite sometime, I have kept my thoughts and feelings to myself, but I cannot hold my peace. My race is who I am. I am proud to be BLACK. I am proud to be a woman of color. I am not ashamed of who I am but I am ashamed of my AMERICA.

What do you see? I see a lynching, I see murder, I see ambivolence, I see bigotry, I see hatred, I SEE A NATIONAL CRISIS!

Its a shoot first and ask questions later, but it is too late.

Its time to WAKE UP!

STAND UP!

LOOK UP!

Trigger

As she stopped her vehicle along the highway

Got out of her car, listening to someone yelling

“Get on the ground”

“Don’t move”

“Put your hands up”

Tears begin to swell her eyes, her children looking out the window

Could this be the last time they see her,

As she stepped forward with her hands up,

asking what had she done wrong?

Being BLACK is your crime and it is punishable by DEATH as he pulled the TRIGGER!

The Tennis Sisters:Dominating and Dynamic

Those grunts can be heard around the world! When they are on the tennis courts, they are a force to be reckoned with, together and separate. The Williams’ sisters have dominated the world of tennis since they were teenagers, nearly 20 years. They have definitely placed their stamp on it.

Who are the little black girls with beads and braids?  I remember watching them on television and thinking, black girls in tennis? They have their hair in braids, they are the same color as I am.

Venus Ebony Starr Williams has been ranked No. 1 on three occasions. She became the first black American woman to be ranked No. 1 in February 2002. She has gone on to win several major titles individually and while playing in mixed doubles and doubles with her sister Serena. Venus has not been as dominate as her sister, but, she has proven that she is a force to be reckoned with. They have faced each other on numerous occasions and has created one of the best rivalries in tennis. Venus has missed several tournaments because for health reasons but she has come back to defeat some ranked opponents. Venus has also been a spokesperson for the equality of women salaries in professional tennis.venuswilliamsreddress2005.jpg

Serena Jameka Williams is the younger sister of Venus. She is the greatest female tennis player of all times. Serena’s accolades and achievements go on and on. She is 3rd on the all time Grand Slam list with 21 and is chasing Steffi Graf. Last year, she faced a heartbreaking defeat as she was chasing history in the U. S. Open. Serena is the second highest paid female athlete in 2015. She was named Sportsperson of the Year for 2015 by Sports Illustrated.

The LOVE Month and GOALS!

The MONTH of LOVE is upon us. I have set a few ambitious goals for myself and “A Perfectly Flawed Ruby” and one of those goals are: To post everyday this month about “LOVE!” It may be a poem, an article, or pictures, just something about “LOVE”.

large_toads-in-love

Also since it is Black History Month, I will also be posting daily about notable, infamous, and some unsung heroes. This week will be dedicated to our SPORTS HEROES! Today, I chose Doug Williams, the first black starting quarterback to lead their team to a Superbowl win. Check it out http://www.wordpress.com/post/aflawedruby2015.com/1270

By this time next week, hopefully Cam Newton will be the third starting black quarterback to lead his team, the Carolina Panthers to the Superbowl and win and the first black quarterback to win a National Championship at the collegiate level and professional level, let’s not forget he won the Heisman, too!

The second week will be devoted to technological advances by black Americans. My third week will devoted to actors, creative people, musicians, and others in this type of category. The fourth week will center around those who have made tremendous strides in political activism and they will carry the month out.

February is Heart Health month! I will post once a week about heart healthy ideas, recipes, and exercises that you can do to keep your HEART HEALTHY!

Happy Reading and Enjoy! 🙂

I love my ambition!

Our History!

February is Black History Month.  Black History is “Our” History.  I say “Our” because as Americans, we must learn the contributions of others.  Blacks have played a major role in the building of our nation, contributions to society, technology advances, bringing together the racial divide, and so much more.  During this month, I will shine light on some notable and not so notable Black Americans.

Since the Superbowl is next Sunday, the first History Maker that I chose is Douglas “Doug” Lee Williams.  Doug Williams was the first starting black quarterback to win the Superbowl XXII with the Washington Redskins in 1988 and was also named the Superbowl MVP.

He was drafted in the first round in 1978 by Tampa Bay Buccaneers and led them to the first NFC Championship Game.  He was the lowest paid starting quarterback in the NFL. and the lowest behind 12 backups. After a couple of years in Tampa Bay, he left and went to the USFL. Once the USFL fizzled out, he was recruited by Joe Gibbs, who was the head coach of the Washington Redskins.  He landed the starting job from Jay Schroeder and eventually led the Redskins to the Superbowl where they beat the Denver Broncos.

After his football career, he became the head coach of his Alma Mater, Grambling State University. He is still involved in football as an executive with the Washington Redskins.

BLACK HISTORY is AMERICA’S HISTORY!
