OMG, 7 years!

Hi All,

I am back. So much has gone on in these last 7 years…where do I begin!

  1. I am DIVORCED! I finally got up enough courage to say “BOY BYE!” You can read that on my other blog “Nurses speak out loud” and the blog post “Catching Flights”.
  2. I became a published author. https://a.co/d/8vZCVuV If you know of some one who is going through a divorce or just starting over, recommend my book of devotionals.
  3. I am still a NURSE! Covid came and I am burnt out and returning to writing is what calmed and soothed my soul.
  4. I am a Nana x 2 to amazing and wonderful girls.
  5. I am healing! I am on a journey of self love, self awareness, self accountability, SELF EVERYTHING!
  6. I am older, lol!
  7. I went to therapy.
  8. I tried dating….to be continued.
  9. I am just focusing on myself and my new normal.

07/30/2016

I just updated some of my GOALS for my blog. It will be a challenge, but it will be one that I know will have success written all over it. I have failed at a few of the goals that I wanted to reach because I have not written anything in a while. So in the mean time, here are some updates.

In April, I had a blogiversary! Congrats to me! One year of doing this periodically!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! hd-image-download-on-new-year

http://www.newyear.quotesms.com/happy-new-year-wishes.html

WOW, we are 4 days into 2016, and it has been steady so far.  I worked on New Year’s Eve and celebrated with my group of coworkers.  It was so quick.

The new year brings about a new beginning,  new opportunities, and a wonderful time to have what your heart desires.

It is the time to begin the business that you have dreamed and envisioned for a while!

It is time to create the life that you have wanted!

It is time to EXCEED their expectations!

This year, I am not creating resolutions, I am creating and focusing on GOALS!  A few of those goals, I posted in  http://aflawedruby2015.com/2015/12/28/put-a-stamp-on-it/.

I have blogging goals and lifestyle goals that I plan to achieve.

I claim this is going to be a GREAT YEAR for all of us! I want to thank all who shared, reblogged, followed,  and read in 2015.

I am looking to be even better with my blog, my followers, sharing, and engaging with each and everyone of you all.  Thanks to all my new followers in 2016.

Happy Reading and come back.

Read, share, refer, and reblog in 2016!

Boxing Legends!

There have been so many great African American boxers. From lightweight to heavyweight that I am not able to discuss them all.

So many people tend to think that Joe Louis was the world’s first black boxing champion but it was John Arthur “Jack” Johnson was the world’s first black boxing champion. He was born in Galveston, Texas in 1878. His parents were former slaves. Jack Johnson lived a fast life and was killed in a car accident in 1946.

Joe Louis Barrow known as Joe Louis was the heavyweight champion from 1937-1949. He is considered to be one of the Greatest of all times.  He was nicknamed the “Brown Bomber” and he was born in LaFayette, Alabama.  He was the first to hold the title the longest. He would come out of retirement in 1950 to be defeated by Rocky Marciano.

“Float like a butterfly, Sting like a bee.” Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr., who would become known as Muhammad Ali is known as the G.O.A.T. No one will dispute his reputation as a fighter, political activist, and his showmanship. Known as the “People’s Champ”, he didn’t back down from what he believed in.  Being a political activist was in his blood. At the age of 22, he became the heavyweight champion by defeating Sonny Liston in an upset. He had a total of 5 losses in his career of 61 fights.

Mike Tyson became the youngest heavy weight champion in 1986 at the age of 20. Despite Mike Tyson’s embattled history, he is a boxing legend.

There are so many other African American boxers out there. These are just a few that I chose.  Sugar Ray Robinson, Sugar Ray Leonard, George Foreman, Evander Holyfield, Roy Jones Jr, Floyd Mayweather, Thomas Hearns, and etc…

Just a little more history and education for you.

Quote Me!

Quote Me
Today’s Daily Post Challenge is “Quote Me”. What is the quote that you return to, why does it resonates with you?

“Success is how high you bounce when you hit rock bottom.”-George S. Patton

So many people have different definitions of what they believe is “SUCCESSFUL”.  I view my success as going after and achieving the goal. I am not looking at having wealth or fame. If I have achieved the goal, then I am successful.  I have hit rock bottom and have been humbled while at the bottom, and I said to myself, I must pick myself up and keep going, not that is my success.

How do you define success? Is it about wealth, fame and/or achieving goals?

Your FUTURE awaits…

photo-1427805371062-cacdd21273f1

As she stood there, trying to decide if she should keep going or turn around, she realized everything that she wanted was in front of her. Most of her life, she was crippled by FEAR! FEAR was her comfort zone. She could not go any further. She knew it was an uncertain future, but, it had to be better than her past.  How would she know if she didn’t move? How would she know that her life would be remarkably different if she didn’t take the first step?

So many times in our lives, we are paralyzed by FEAR.  FEAR of the unknown. We lose so much because we are afraid to take those steps.

2 Timothy 1:7–“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of sound mind.

We have got to stop letting FEAR consume us and let FAITH move us.

Open Letter to the Side Chicks

Dear Side Chicks,

I just thought that I would write a letter to you all and ask what are you doing? Some of you are messing up the name. Now, I have to put out more because one of you have decided to ask for a relationship or want something more. Why, would you do that? You have to get in where you fit in.

I already know that many of you are not getting what you deserve, because he has to divide his time between so many of you, but I guess that’s fine with you. Oh, you thought that you were the only one. Nawl, boo? There are about 4 of you with a couple waiting in the wing

.baby momma

Yep, many of you know that we’re still married, not separated, but you don’t care because of the lies that he has told you. Some of you are older, some younger, some married, some in a “situationship”, some single, and etc. Some of you work, some don’t, some maybe in college working towards a degree, some not, and etc. Some I may have seen and been in contact with, some not. Some of y’all are just “friends”, the “friends” that I have never been introduced to. Some of y’all are friends of the family. Some of you are “baby mommas” who didn’t make it to the finish line.

side-chicks-fail-05

Humph, one of y’all even picked him up from the airport when he took that business trip out of state and he stayed with you for a couple of days before coming home. He even stayed with some of you while we were separated, right under my nose, but it was fine. Trust me, I know. I wasn’t blind to any of it.

We’ve been together for over 20 years, so I know him. I know his habits, especially when they change or differ. Don’t think that I am a fool because I have stayed. Ask yourself this question, “Why hasn’t he left?” If I am so bad, why does he stay? He can leave at anytime and be with you all, but he didn’t want to. Maybe because I know all his secrets and he is afraid to go. Maybe it is because I have his heart. Maybe it is like the old saying goes, “IT’S CHEAPER TO KEEP HER.”

skeleton

Well, he’s sick now and I need some of y’all to take him to his doctor’s appointments, pick up his medications, take him to his chemo treatments, his dialysis appointments, wipe up his vomit, cook for him, wash his clothes, while I go to work. Now, don’t all volunteer at once, you wanted him when he was well and with me, now that he is sick, I NEED for you all to step up to the plate. You all can do this, I know you can. Aren’t you ready to be #1?

Sincerely,

The Wife

The Scales have TIPPED!!!

Update: NOTHING HAS CHANGED! Wait! I am no longer at that job! I have not weighed myself since I originally published this post. I have been monitoring my blood pressure this year and it has started to go up…not thrilled about that. I absolutely have to do better. I think that it is stress related.

While at work, I thought it would be an adventure to go and tip the scales!  The scale TIPPED in the WRONG DAMN DIRECTION! Thinking to myself, “this cannot be right!”, as I am walking off with a cold can Pepsi in my hand.  Really?  I am weighing my options, talking to myself as I walk back to my unit.

“Are you going to drink this Pepsi after you just weighed yourself?”

“Yes, I am.”  I had gone above my limit, so why not enjoy this cold Pepsi.

I must admit, I am not an active woman.  I do not have an active lifestyle.  I am a nurse who works 12 hours on the night shift, a wife who has to make time for all of my “wifely” duties…doing great in some areas, a mother who has  four children to take care of which is in college, so the scales have TIPPED, and I MEAN TIPPED!

I was okay with my 200 lb. frame.  I’m tall at 5’9” and it does not look like I am over 200 pounds, 14 pounds to be exact.  I mean in the last month and that’s not health at all.  People always tell me, “you’re tall and you carry it well.”  It’s not MUSCLE, it’s FAT! I’m still P.H.A.T(Pretty Hot And Thick)! LOL!!

Working at night, I sleep during the day.  I do not get up to do anything EXTRA! I have a sedentary lifestyle, I admit. I get up to use the bathroom, get something to drink, and very little to eat. I snack at work, which is the problem.  I have definitely got to make some changes.  I am healthy, no BP problems.  I am not a diabetic, even though it runs in my family.  I am almost 39 years old and I have to make some serious lifestyle changes.  There may not be any issues right now, but if I continue to do nothing, there may be on horizon.

I seem to lack the motivation to get started, like many Americans.  It’s not until something goes horribly wrong that many of us start to make some lifestyle changes.  As a nurse, I know what is right.  I know what I need to do. I can tell everyone else what they should do, but I am not telling myself.  I have a husband, 4 children who are 19, 15, 11, and 8 and I want to be around to see them become productive adults.  I SEE MY MOTIVATION!!!
